Pagan Set to Speak at IGNITE 2nd Annual Sport Science Seminar for the Olympic Disciplines in Ocala

Joe Pagan, Ph.D., founder and president of Kentucky Equine Research, will speak at the IGNITE 2nd Annual Sport Science Seminar for the Olympic Disciplines, which will be held January 12-13, 2025, at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida.
Pagan will discuss heat stress, measuring muscle temperature with implanted thermal chips, and methods of cooling horses.
Other topics on the agenda include shockwave therapy for exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH) and asthma, use of artificial intelligence in lameness assessment, use of fitness wearables to improve performance, data-driven performance improvements, impact of shoeing and footing on performance, and how orthobiologics change treatment strategies. Panel sessions and Q&As will be part of every session.
In addition to Pagan, speakers include veterinarians and other researchers directly involved with the welfare and care of high-performance horses. Among those on the list of speakers are Emmanuelle van Erck, D.V.M., Ph.D., and Robin Bell, B.V.Sc., both of whom were invited speakers at the Equine Health and Nutrition Conference hosted by Kentucky Equine Research last February in Ocala.
IGNITE “facilitates collaboration between all aspects of the industry and leverages collective expertise to advance the management of equine athletes.” The mission of the group is “to deliver evidence-inspired health and performance improvements to every equine athlete,” according to its website.
