Nutrition Expertise Aids Cranbourne Winner Mr Jammo

Mr Jammo made headlines when he broke his maiden in the Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria Super VOBIS Maiden Plate over 1400 metres at Cranbourne.
Kentucky Equine Research works closely with his breeder, Michael Flannery of Springmount Stud. Mr Jammo was a special case for Peter Huntington, B.V.Sc., M.A.C.V.Sc., Director of Nutrition for Kentucky Equine Research’s Australasian division.
“As a yearling Mr Jammo suffered from some disturbances related to rapid growth that needed a paced diet and restricted exercise,” explains Huntington. “He was fed KER ALL Phase feed balancer pellet and Nano-E as a source of additional vitamin E, along with a mix of grass hay and lucerne hay. The owners were patient and with time and expert veterinary care from Dr. Ian Church he made progress, so that he could be broken in and raced first as a late 3-year-old. With this preparation he has run 3rd, 2nd and then graced the winner’s circle at Cranbourne. He is a promising horse and looks to have a bright future.”
Flannery told Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria, “Mr Jammo’s dam, the Desert Style (Ire) mare Ruby Doll has been a great producer, but unfortunately, Mr Jammo was pretty sick as a youngster. Thanks to the dedicated and brilliant help of Dr. Ian Church, and Peter Huntington from Kentucky Equine Research, they were able to manage him. It was an incredible feat to get him to the track.” See more coverage of Mr Jammo’s win.
