Medications Made Easy

How are you supposed to get those oral medications into your horse? A common answer is to grind or crush pills or tablets, mix them with applesauce, and use a large syringe to squirt the mixture into the back of the horse’s mouth, much like administering an oral paste dewormer.
Other useful carriers are flavored gelatin powder, baby-food carrots, lemon or vanilla yogurt, and pudding in banana or vanilla flavors. If in doubt as to the best way to administer medications, consult your veterinarian.
