Dressage Rider Relies on EO-3 for Respiratory Health in Smoky Conditions

During the recent CDI Competition held at Boneo Park, we caught up with Alycia Targa from Milbank Equestrian to discuss the difficulties she’s had in preparing her Grand Prix horse CP Dresden (Mr. Des) for the competition.
Milbank Equestrian is based on the South Coast of New South Wales and has had heavy smoke coverage for many weeks. “EO-3 is a great way for us to manage any inflammation in the respiratory tract. With Boneo Classic, we have kept the horses in light work and using EO-3 as a management tool for the smoke inhalation.”
Smoke from bushfires and wildfires can cause serious health problems for all animals, including horses. Air quality diminishes when smoke is visible, so horses should not be exercised if smoke is present. Limit exposure to smoke when possible, and avoid anything more than light exercise in smoky conditions. Veterinary treatments, including bronchodilators, corticosteroids given by nebulizer, and long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, can be used to reduce the impact of chronic exposure to smoke on lung function.
In addition, EO-3® has also demonstrated benefits to the cardiovascular system, reproductive performance, and bone development in numerous research studies in a variety of animal species. The consumption of EPA and DHA from a source such as EO-3 is the only way to ensure that these fatty acids are available for metabolism of the “less-inflammatory” compounds and other metabolites beneficial for the horse’s overall health and well-being.
