Kathleen Crandell, Ph.D., senior nutritionist at Kentucky Equine Research, spoke at the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Convention in Calgary, June 29, 2024.

“Keeping up with current research can be difficult for veterinarians, especially when they have a multispecies practice,” said Crandell. “Universities and private companies such as Kentucky Equine Research continue to publish research about strategically managing horses with and without disease. These meetings allow veterinarians and other professionals to keep up with this research.”

Crandell gave three presentations during the equine session:

  • Nutrition of Horses with Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction,
  • Nutritional Solutions for Horses with Myopathies, and
  • Senior Horse Nutrition.

The conference regularly attracts hundreds of veterinarians and veterinary technicians from Canada, the U.S., and several other countries.

Crandell began her tenure at Kentucky Equine Research in the late 1990s, and she continues to offer nutritional consultation to several of the company’s feed-manufacturing partners as well as horse owners.
