As the horses crossed the finish line in the Beck Probuild Quezette Stakes (G3) at Caulfield Racecourse in Victoria, Bella Nipotina led the pack, breaking her streak as the richest maiden in Australia.

Bella Nipotina began her racing career as a two-year-old in the Debutant Stakes at Caulfield, where she finished fourth. She ran six more maiden races, never finishing lower than fourth and earning $550,975. Not a bad payday for a filly that sold for $80,000 at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Breeder and part-owner Michael Christian of Longwood Thoroughbred Farm has a soft spot for the three-year-old filly. “Bella Nipotina’s granddam, Bella Inez, was the first mare at our original property, so anything from that family will always be very special to us,” he told Aushorse. To honor the family connection, Bella Nipotina is Italian for “beautiful granddaughter”.

Longwood Thoroughbred Farm feeds Breed N Grow from Kentucky Equine Research Feed Partner, Barastoc Horse Feeds, and works with Kentucky Equine Research to create customised feeding programs using KER Targeted Nutrition supplements. Bella Nipotina’s trainer Ben Hayes also consults with Kentucky Equine Research to ensure his horses are fueled for success.
