Product Spotlight: Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli

Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli is a highly palatable grain mix that is very popular with horses as well as the hip pockets of horse owners! Our muesli contains a blend of steam-rolled lupins, barley, sunflower seeds, and canola oil to ensure both optimum digestibility and maximum palatability.
The feed is formulated with 13% protein and 12.5 MJ/Kg DE to provide key nutrients at levels suited to all types of pleasure and performance horses. To increase the nutrient supply to their horses, owners can simply increase the amount fed. Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli also contains a concentrated vitamin and mineral profile in a pelleted form. This ensures horses receive an even nutrient blend and prevents “sifting out” of nutrients. The concentrate levels of vitamins and minerals also allows for lower feed rate to be used, which makes Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli ideal for horse owners that have good-doers, horses that don’t require large feed intakes, or owners that like to add in another feed or grain to meet their horse’s energy requirements. This allows owners the flexibility to top-up energy as required.
As with all Milne muesli mixes, we use minimal molasses to reduce sugar intake. We also include canola oil and sunflower seeds to increase the fat-based energy content in the feed and, as a result, Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli is a great alternative for horses that tend to heat up on high-grain feeds.
Milne Feeds’ equine nutrition advisor, Michelle, shares some tips and experiences on using Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli in diets. “Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli is great for use leading up to an event, and for topping up energy during times of increased exercise or training. Horse owners can use it as their base feed and add pellets, fibre, or grain as needed. Because Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli is so palatable, it makes a great inclusion for fussy horses or horses that may not eat well at competitions. We’ve had some great success with diets using Oat-Free Horse Muesli. One horse, in particular, lacked the energy needed to complete his showjumping competitions but tended to be a little highly strung when doing normal, lower intensity exercise at home and after rest days. He was also a very fussy eater and easily went off his feed. We used Oat-Free Horse Muesli as the base feed, at 2kg/day, and topped up energy with 1-2kg of Performance Horse Pellets depending on his schedule. This gave his owner the flexibility to fine-tune his energy intake in order to maintain a more even temperament. The high palatability of Milne Oat-Free Horse Muesli also kept him eating and interested in food.”
