Anna Loschiavo, a Kentucky Equine Research-sponsored eventer, finished in the top ten in both the CCI4*-L and CCI4*-S at the Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event held May 8-12 at the Horse Park of New Jersey.

Anna and Spartacus Q endured a tough cross-country course and a soggy show-jumping round to finish eighth in the CCI4*-L, the gelding’s first four-star long-format event. Anna also finished sixth in the CCI4*-S with Prince Renan.

Anna uses the KER ClockIt™ app to track her horses’ fitness and fine-tune her feel for their speed, strength, and endurance. “Across my recent gallop sessions with Spartacus Q, I noticed a huge difference in how he felt galloping that was then directly correlated to his heart rate improvement,” Anna said. “Spartacus is a phenomenal athlete but he sometimes, for lack of better terms, trains a bit ‘lazy.’ He is the most fun in the world to run cross-country on and is always asking for the next fence but occasionally when I do gallop sets with him I feel like I should pull up every couple minutes. In my mind, this goes along with his personality, which is very easy-going, as well as his breeding. He is a Hanoverian and to me you have to teach a warmblood about its stamina, a conversation that you don’t have to have with most Thoroughbreds.”

In addition to the app, Anna also feeds her horses new Nano-Q10™ to help her speed recovery between workouts. Nano-Q10 is a highly bioavailable form of coenzyme Q10, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from the damaging effects of free radicals and energizes other antioxidants in the body, like vitamins C and E.
